One of the characteristic features of the new Federal Square is the large 60.6 by 36.6 m rectangle of natural paving slabs, which points towards the Parliament building. A gently curving strip of light runs from the adjacent Bärenplatz square towards the main entrance of
the Parliament building, and this is complemented – especially at night – by the carefully-accented lighting of the building facades around the
square. But the main attraction of Federal Square is the fountain, with its 26 jets of water to symbolise the 26 cantons of Switzerland.
